Adapting an 80 cm undercounter drawer fridge to a 90 cm niche
Although the Norcool G3 is 80 cm wide, it can fit perfectly in a 90 cm niche and is therefore suitable as a 90 cm undercounter drawer fridge. From experience we know that many users reuse their 90 cm-wide kitchen panels from the Bauknecht drawer fridge and mount them on the Norcool drawers.
Step-by-step installation guide for a 90 cm undercounter drawer-fridge niche
Step 1: Preparation
The Norcool G3 drawer fridge fits without problems in the niche where the Bauknecht KRIS 1509 A was built in. Place the Norcool G3 centred in the niche. That leaves 5 cm on both sides, which must be filled for a stable install and a clean finish. Use filler strips or plinths of 5 cm wide, preferably in the same material or colour as your kitchen fronts.
Step 2: Reuse or order new front panels
You can reuse the front panels of your 90 cm Bauknecht undercounter drawer fridge or order new ones that match your kitchen. When reusing: remove the old panels and attach them with the supplied plugs to the Norcool drawers. For new panels: order 90 cm-wide kitchen panels or choose a standard Norcool panel kit in stainless steel or matte black.
Step 3: Fixing the panels
Install the panels firmly: place the front panel on the drawer (centred), drill 4.5 mm holes in the drawer and fix the panel with the plugs. Check that the screws do not touch the magnetic strip so the drawer still closes well.
Step 4: Installing the ventilation grilles
Good ventilation is essential for the Norcool G3. Ventilation grilles must be integrated in the plinth with a total ventilation area of at least 121 cm² per grille. Make sure the airflow around the grilles is not blocked.
Step 5: Placing the fridge
Slide the Norcool G3 carefully into place. Adjust the rear foot until the back sits close to the underside of the worktop, then set the front feet until the appliance stands firmly. Fix the supplied screws to the brackets under the worktop to prevent tipping.
Step 6: Switching on and testing
Wait two hours after placement before you plug it in. That gives the refrigerant in the cooling system time to settle. Test the digital display and the LED lighting. Open and close the drawers to check that the fronts are mounted well and move smoothly.
Maintenance tips for your 90 cm undercounter drawer fridge
- Cleaning: Clean the fridge regularly with warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid aggressive cleaners and steam cleaning.
- Defrosting: The fridge has an automatic defrost function, but if ice builds up, manual defrosting may be needed.
- Check ventilation: Keep the ventilation grilles free of dust and dirt so air circulation and cooling stay optimal.
