XARO expands the range with ioMabe: American-style fridges, wine coolers and beverage centres from Mexican maker Mabe, built on more than 70 years of manufacturing experience and licensed GE cooling technology. From now on the full ioMabe range is available at XARO, including the option to have side-by-side and French-door models finished in any RAL colour.

In this article you read where ioMabe comes from, which two product lines the brand offers, what the best-known models can do and how you pick a RAL colour at XARO for a custom fridge. Browse the full ioMabe range or read more background in Buying an ioMabe fridge: what makes this brand unique?.

  • ioMabe is the European brand name of Mabe (founded 1946, Mexico), in a technical alliance with GE Appliances since 1987.
  • The range has two lines: Bottom Freezer (French-door fridges) and Wine Coolers & Beverage Centres.
  • Side-by-side / French-door models come in stainless steel, matte black or a RAL colour of your choice; XARO has a RAL selector built into the shop.
  • All ioMabe appliances have a standard 2-year full warranty plus 5 years on the hermetically sealed cooling circuit.

Where does ioMabe come from?

ioMabe is not a standalone brand, but the European brand name of Mexican group Mabe. Mabe was founded in 1946 and grew into the market leader in large household appliances in Latin America, with about 19,000 employees worldwide in 2017. Since then the company has been among the larger makers of fridges, washing machines and cookers on the American continent.

The core of the story sits in 1987, when Mabe formed a strategic alliance with General Electric Appliances (GE Appliances) to develop and produce cooling appliances together. In 2000 both companies opened a joint factory in Celaya, Mexico. From then on almost all No Frost fridges - side-by-side, bottom freezer and top freezer - for the markets in the Americas, Europe and the Middle East were built in that factory.

In 2007 the group launched ioMabe as a separate brand, with the aim of bringing design and function together in what the company itself calls the most important room in the house: the kitchen.

An ioMabe fridge is therefore not a newcomer's product, but the result of decades of GE cooling technology combined with large-scale Mexican production. That is also why ioMabe sits close to premium brands such as Sub-Zero and Liebherr Monolith on function, at a more accessible price.

In the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, American Appliances B.V. (based in Zierikzee) has handled distribution of mabe and ioMabe products since late 2013, including service, parts and warranty. With ioMabe in the range, XARO is a recognised seller in that network - the same personal approach we already use for the Norcool range.

Which two product lines does ioMabe offer?

ioMabe splits the range into two clear lines: Bottom Freezer (the American-style fridges) and wine coolers, including beverage centres. Both lines share the same design language and the same finish options, so you can combine them easily in one kitchen.

Bottom Freezer: the American-style fridges

The Bottom Freezer line covers the French-door fridges: cooling on top via a double door, freezing below via a drawer. This is ioMabe's core line and includes dozens of available variants - this line alone has thirty model codes, varying in size and finish. All models suit freestanding placement or standard built-in and come as standard with:

  • an internal water filter with water dispenser;
  • an automatic ice maker in the freezer;
  • Sabbath Mode, TurboCool and a door alarm;
  • full NoFrost operation with ClimateKeeper technology for stable storage.

Model codes such as INO27JSPF, INO27JSPF80, INO27JSPF3BM and INO27JSPF3RAL always describe the same base, but in a different finish: stainless steel, matte black (BM) or a RAL colour of your choice (RAL). For smaller kitchens there is the more compact IWO19JSPF, an 84 cm-wide French door that still offers the same layout and functions as the wider models.

Wine coolers and beverage centres

The second line consists of undercounter wine coolers and beverage centres, designed with identical dimensions so they sit next to each other or next to a Bottom Freezer model. The dual-zone wine fridge offers two independent climate zones for red and white wine, space for 51 bottles, a carbon filter, wooden shelves and a glass door with UV protection. The beverage centre is the drinks-cooler alternative with 150 litres, steel mesh shelves and the same UV-blocking glass door. Both come in stainless steel or black, with reversible hinges for left- or right-hand opening.

Standard on board: an internal water dispenser with GE SmartWater filter, an automatic ice maker, a deli drawer with adjustable temperature and two crisper drawers. For anyone who does not want the light to come on when opening the door on Friday evening and Saturday, there is also Sabbath Mode.

On price this model sits in the segment of about €3,000 to €4,000, depending on the finish - well below Liebherr Monolith (from €8,000) and Sub-Zero (from €10,000), while the everyday technology is comparable.

What technology sits under the bonnet?

ioMabe builds the cooling around three technologies that together decide how long and how stably food stays fresh.

NoFrost with FrostGuard technology. Fan cooling keeps temperatures even throughout the appliance. FrostGuard calculates from door openings and compressor run times when defrosting is actually needed, cools extra hard to -30°C just before the cycle and keeps the defrost itself short. That lowers the risk of freezer burn and stops frozen food from partly thawing.

ClimateKeeper & ClimateGuard. Electronic sensors, an air tunnel over several levels and fans keep fridge and freezer temperatures (3°C and -18°C) independent of each other and quickly stable after you close the door. A 1.5 kg chicken freezes to the core within two hours, without losing taste or structure after thawing.

EnergySmart. Thanks to electronic sensors and FrostGuard, ioMabe fridges perform relatively efficiently for their size and type. The exact energy label differs per model and finish - always check the latest product page for a specific model.

XARO RAL selector: build a custom fridge in the shop

ioMabe side-by-side and French-door models were already set up around a three-step configuration idea: first choose freestanding or built-in, then colour or cladding, then the exact version. A RAL colour of your choice has always been one of the standard personalisation options, next to stainless steel and matte black.

XARO has now built that choice into its own shop: on custom RAL ioMabe fridges you pick a RAL colour code on the product page, so the fridge is finished in the colour of your kitchen fronts or interior before you order. You do not need to call or email separately - the RAL selector in the shop puts the colour into your order at once.

How does ioMabe compare to Sub-Zero and Liebherr?

If you are looking at a premium American-style fridge you will eventually meet Sub-Zero and Liebherr Monolith. Sub-Zero focuses on full custom work with an ultra-premium finish, at a price that is often two to three times an ioMabe model. Liebherr Monolith stands out with precision cooling and smart-home connectivity, also in a higher price segment.

ioMabe sits in between: close to these top brands on function - NoFrost, internal ice maker, water filter, a solid metal chassis - but without the entry price of a fully custom install. For anyone who wants a spacious, reliable American-style fridge without shopping in the absolute top segment, that is a real budget difference with similar day-to-day function.

Warranty and service: who stands behind it?

ioMabe appliances have a standard 2-year full warranty on repairs (parts, labour and call-out) caused by product defects, plus 5 years on parts of the hermetically sealed cooling circuit. Service, parts and warranty in the Benelux and Germany are handled by American Appliances B.V., the official distributor since late 2013.

As a Dutch seller of ioMabe, XARO adds personal advice on the model choice and a delivery option with installation. Torn between a neutral stainless-steel finish and a custom colour? Get in touch - we think along based on your kitchen layout and budget.

To finish

Thanks to the new RAL selector in the shop you now pick the colour of your custom ioMabe fridge yourself at XARO.
